How to Decorate a Table With Fruit or Vegetables

No matter what type of event you are hosting, you can create a welcoming space for friends and family to gather by using fruits or vegetables as table decorations. Fruits and vegetables come in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors, making it easy to customize a tablescape. These decorations create a warm and inviting natural look to a table, transforming it from a ho-hum place to sit to a visually appealing space. And after your event, you can enjoy munching on these tasty decorations. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Fill a wide, clear vase, such as a hurricane lamp vase or a simple, wide circular vase, with a single type of colorful fruit or vegetable such as lemons, limes, oranges, cranberries or small pumpkins or with a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables. Set the filled vase in the center of the table as a simple, yet attractive centerpiece. To add further interest, surround it with tea lights.

    2

Place a table runner down the center of the table. Set a large fruit or vegetable in the center of the runner, such as a squash or a pineapple, and place smaller fruits along each side of the central item; small pumpkins, pears, apples and peppers, for example. Place a tea light between each of the pieces of food.

    3

Write the names of guests on small decorative place cards. Punch a hole through the top or one of the sides of the cards and string a thin piece of ribbon through the holes. Tie the ribbon around the stem of a fruit or vegetable an apple, a peach or a pepper, perhaps.

    4

Select a decorative tray to use as the basis for your display. Place a pillar candle in the center of the tray. Surround the pillar candle with colorful fruits or vegetables, or both. Use the tray as a centerpiece for a table.
