Small Space Breakfast Nook Ideas

Small Space Breakfast Nook Ideas

A breakfast nook is a small area, usually adjacent to the kitchen. It is generally used for casual dining, while more formal dinners take place in a dining room. When decorating your breakfast nook, take into consideration who will be using it the most, how often you will use it, and what you will use it for. Does this Spark an idea?

Maximize Limited Space

Because breakfast nooks are usually on the small side, maximizing what space is available is an important part of the space's decor. A wall shelf with pegs is one way to hold drinking glasses and mugs, and by using attractive dishes, it will double as an attractive decoration. Wall shelves are also great for holding table items like sugar, salt and pepper when not in use. Another way to maximize space in a small dining area is to use a table with sides that fold down. When the whole family sits down to eat, there's plenty of room for everyone at the table. But when the table isn't in use or if just one or two are dining, the sides can be left down to leave the room more open.

A Room With a View

If your breakfast nook has a window, use it to your advantage when decorating the space. Curtains can really tie a room together and there are endless styles to choose from. If the window overlooks a nice view, make the most of it. If not, consider a window box with flowers or fresh herbs.

Elegant and Romantic

For an elegant, romantic feel to your breakfast nook, place a lace tablecloth on the table and hang matching curtains. Roses or carnations on the table or in the window box add a nice touch. Candlesticks, while usually reserved for the dining room, are another way to add romance to the space.

Kid-Friendly Nook

A kid-friendly breakfast nook is an easily cleaned nook. A cotton tablecloth that can be thrown in the washer is best--or don't use one at all. Hang shelves low so kids can reach them. A fruit bowl on the table adds decoration and encourages kids to choose a healthy snack.
