How to Make Place Tags for a Dinner Table

How to Make Place Tags for a Dinner Table

The dining experience is less chaotic when guests have assigned seats that you predetermine with the aid of place tags. Place tags, also known as place cards, allow guests to identify their particular spot at a table. Not only are these identifiers functional, they also act as decorative pieces because they can be designed to coordinate with the dinner or event theme. Rather than spending money on having place tags professionally designed and constructed for you, turn this into a do-it-yourself project and customize the tags exactly how you want them.

Instructions

    1

Select the scrapbooking paper to use on the place tags. Determine an appropriate color and pattern based on the theme of the event you are hosting. Cut out a few pieces of the scrapbooking paper with scissors.

    2

Use a paper puncher to create a decorative trim with the scrapbooking paper. The paper should be the length and width of the card stock so the trim can cover all of the edges of the place tag.

    3

Affix the scrapbooking paper trim to the border of the card stock with glue.

    4

Use a fine-tip permanent marker to write the guests' names in the center of the place tag, within the decorative border. You can make the font look formal by handwriting the names in cursive, or even calligraphy. For a more casual or modern look, write the names in all capital or lower-case letters.

    5

Add embellishments to the place tags. If you are hosting a sewing party, for instance, it is appropriate to glue a small sewing button to the corner of each place tag. Or, if you are hosting an engagement dinner, you can glue tiny, white satin bows to the top of the place tags. For a vintage look, you can add a stamp on the place tags.
