How to Make a Wine Table at Home

Make a beautiful and functional wine table at home without lifting a single hammer or nail. Any table can become a wine table if you set it up to function in that role. Selecting the table itself is important, but not as important as the accoutrements that confirm its wine table status.

Select your wine table based on availability or design. If your options are limited, an existing sideboard or dining room buffet can become your wine table. Locate your wine table on a piece of furniture that is visually interesting in the room. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Find a table to use for your wine service. If you want a special wine table, look for a new or old liquor trolley. These roll-in bars were quite popular in the 1960s and can be found used at garage sales and secondhand stores, or new in furniture stores. You can also find large folding tray tables, some with leather-covered trays, or with mirrored tops that make fabulous tables for wine service.

    2

Display an interesting array of wine bottles, glassware and bar items such as wine chillers. If your wine table is on a buffet or sideboard, look for a large mirror to use as the platform for your wine service. The mirrored surface reflects and refracts against wine bottles, crystal stemware and stainless steel bar tools.

    3

Assemble your selection of wine glasses. Display two of each type of glass if more than four different types of glasses are featured. If displaying fewer than four glass types, display three or four glasses.

Stock a variety of wine glasses for red wine, white wine and champagne, as well as brandy sniffers. Consider including crystal wine decanters.

    4

Display polished stainless bar tools like bottle stoppers, spoons and strainers on your wine table. These tools add visual interest and sparkle.

    5

Keep some wine bottles on display at all times. Purchase several good bottles of wine. Try Cakebread Cellars or a nice Mondavi as expensive display bottles. Drink and replace these display bottles every three months. Dust your wine table regularly.
