How to Set a Table for Thanksgiving

How to Set a Table for Thanksgiving

If you have never had Thanksgiving at your house before, you may not know how to properly set the table. Setting the table can set the mood for the dinner, so it is important that you take the time to think about how you want your table to look. You also want to remember how the place settings should be. Together, these two things can make your Thanksgiving table one to remember. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Choose a tablecloth that reminds you of fall. It could be a plain tablecloth utilizing one of the autumn colors, or it could be a tablecloth that contains falling leaves or pumpkin patches. Iron the tablecloth and drape over the table.

    2

Choose your centerpiece. This could be a glass bowl filled with pine cones and potpourri, a carved out pumpkin, or a basket of plastic corns and squashes. Be creative and remember that whatever you choose, your centerpiece should be the biggest item on the table.

    3

Place one candle on either side of the centerpiece. The colors of the candle should match or compliment the centerpiece. Light the candles just before you sit down to eat.

    4

Set your table. Your cloth napkin should go first, followed by your salad fork and then your regular fork. Next to the forks is your plate. To the right of your plate should be your knife and then your spoon. Make sure the blade of the knife is facing the plate. The top left of your setting should contain the bread plate while the top right contains a water glass and a drinking glass. A bread knife should be placed on top of the bread plate.

    5

Scatter some nuts around the table after the place settings have been set. Some individuals like to scatter leaves of the many different fall colors. Whichever you prefer is fine.

    6

Make some place cards. You can use blank index cards and fold them over. Write each person's name in calligraphy. Add a holly leave with a berry in the top corner, or a stalk of corn. Set the place cards in the middle of the plates where you want each person to sit.
