Flowers for the Dinner Table

Flowers for the Dinner Table

Flowers can add a natural appeal or a rainbow of color to any dinner table. Choose flowers that match with the season, event or holiday. Spring bouquets featuring daisies, tulips or other colorful blooms work well as the weather begins to warm up. Fall flowers dress up an autumn table nicely by displaying rustic hues such as gold, burgundy and yellow. New flowers come with each season, but some flowers, such as roses, serve as timeless classics that work throughout the entire year. Does this Spark an idea?

Winter Flowers

Some flowers such as poinsettias are common winter favorites because of the bold colors that they display. Poinsettias come in red and white and are usually only sold around the Christmas holiday season. Pair poinsettia bouquets with decorative winter vases, red and white candles and extra greenery. Lenten roses, Moth Orchids, Winter Aconite, Glory of the Snow and Crocus of the Snow also make lovely winter flower centerpieces.

Roses

Use roses to add a soft touch to any dinner table. Red roses work especially well for romantic dinners, but you can dress up the table with roses for any occasion because these flowers come in so many colors. Place a vase filled with yellow, white and pink roses on the table during spring or summer. In the fall you might want to feature yellow, peach and red roses along with extra fall greenery in the bouquet. Red and white roses work well during the winter months or other formal dinner events.

Colorful Flowers

Colorful flowers make a spring or summer table stand out. Tropical varieties such as orchids and hibiscus also create an exotic feel. Common spring beauties, such as yellow lilies, exotic pink daises or pansies, look lovely on a spring table. Feature a bouquet with different types of spring flowers, or focus on one type of flower. Small sunflower species become common in the summer months as well. Look for Teddy bear varieties or traditional small sunflowers found in the grocery store. Showcase spring flowers with other table decor, such as colorful candles or small handcrafted birds nests with blue eggs.

Fall Flowers

Fall flowers add to the festivities that fall brings. Feature flowers such as dahlias, fall sunflowers, orange daisies and orange roses. Pair fall flowers with centerpieces that include pumpkins, fall leaves and baby's breath. "Southern Living" magazine recommends wrapping fall flowers in corn husks. The husks can add a different dimension to any fall bouquet.
