Decoratively, a coffee table can be played up or down, depending upon the design of a room. For instance, coffee table in a minimalist room will be dressed differently than a table in a country-style room. Taking the time to make this part of your design just right can bring the whole concept of the room together. Creating a pretty coffee table arrangement is as easy as taking your cues from the rest of the decor. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
- 1
Use the correct size coffee table. A coffee table should be the same height as the seat of the sofa and not quite as long as the sofa.
2Create a theme to tie the coffee table together with the rest of the room. For example, if you have artwork featuring wildlife hanging on the wall, stack a few books on wildlife in the center of coffee table. Place a statue of a bird on top of the books and lay a jar of decorative bird eggs next to it. If your room is shabby chic, tie it together by adding items like a chipped candy bowl, rustic frame and white roses in a painted coffee can.
3Vary the height of everything you place on the table to keep the arrangement from looking static. Candlesticks or vases of different heights helps create a sense of movement on the table and makes it visually interesting.
4Layer items in. Layering adds depth to the table and gives you more opportunity for creativity. Start with something simple like a piece of lace. Place an ornate mirror on the lace, and top it off with a small bouquet of flowers or aromatic candle. The trick to layering is to use an odd number of objects and add unexpected items.
