How to Make Your Own Pool Table Topper

Pool tables can be converted for other uses with the addition of a topper. When guests or relatives are over and seating is limited, you can add a topper to convert the pool table into a dining table. Material should be light, such as plywood or medium density fiberboard (MDF). A carefully-constructed topper will not damage the pool table when the dining table top is set in place.

Measure the width and length of the pool table with the tape measure.

Measure the width of the pool table inside the rails. Subtract two inches from this measurement.

Divide the measurement of the length that was obtained in step 1 in half. Take this calculation and measure from one end of a sheet of -inch plywood and make a mark with the pencil.

Place a straight edge on the mark you made in Step 2 and draw a line across the width of the plywood.

Set the plywood on a pair of sawhorses. Cut along the mark you made in Step 3 with the circular saw to make two pieces.

Measure and cut a 1-by-3 inch board equal to the measurement for the width from Step 2.

Set one of the cut pieces of plywood from step 5 on the ground. Measure the width of the 1-by-3 board and make a mark with the pencil at 1 inches. Do this on both ends of the board. Place the 1-by-3 board under the right side of the plywood and align the edge with the pencil marks. This will form a ledge to support the other piece of plywood.

Screw the 1-by-3 inch board to the bottom edge of the plywood with a power drill.

Cut six 2-inch wide strips of foam rubber with a utility knife. Four strips need to be the length of the plywood and two strips need to be the width of the plywood.

Apply construction adhesive along the perimeter, one inch from the edge, on the underside of each piece of plywood. Place the foam rubber along each edge of the plywood and press down firmly to adhere it. Wait at least two hours for the adhesive to dry.

Set the piece of plywood with the 1-by-3 board on top of the left side of the pool table. The 1-by-3 board will need to be on the underside of the plywood. Set the other piece of plywood onto the opposite end of the pool table and lay it on the 1-by-3 board.
