How to Publish A Coffee Table Book

How to Publish A Coffee Table Book

Whether you are a photographer or artist looking for a way to make some extra money, or a newlywed wishing to share memories with family and friends, publishing a coffee table book is a unique way to showcase your photos. With the explosion of Internet publishing services, self publishing has become even easier than ever. With proper planning, dedication and research, you can be on your way to publishing a coffee table book.

Instructions

    1

Research the coffee table books that you enjoy. Pay attention to the layout of the content and the overall tone of the book. Jot down notes about the elements that appeal to you the most.

    2

Determine your budget. Publishing your own coffee table book requires some investment, and prices can range from $10 to $80 dollars per book depending on the size of the book, number of pages, and quality of paper.

    3

Identify your topic. You may have images that pertain to one specific topic, or those that spread across several different themes. Organize your images accordingly.

    4

Identify your audience. Decide whether the book be geared toward other photographers, travel enthusiasts, or people with a quirky sense of humor, for example. You can also publis the book just for family and friends. This will affect the layout and tone of your book.

    5

Outline a table of contents. Decide what categories your photographs should be grouped in, and what order the categories should be in the book.

    6

Write the text elements of your book. Coffee table books are generally light on text, however they still include personal anecdotes, dates, or descriptions of the images, which can be compelling to readers.

    7

Choose an online publisher such as Blurb, MyPublisher, Lulu, or Edition One Books. Most online publishers include the option to print just one copy of your book and give you a choice in size of the book.

    8

Design the layout of your coffee table book using desktop publishing software such as Adobe Indesign, Microsoft Publisher, or Scribus. Many online publishers have their own free software with templates that you can download and use to create a layout for your book.

    9

Submit your coffee table book for printing to the online publisher you have chosen.
